How the STEM Learning Experience is Improved with Friends

“Nothing is more powerful than a close-knit community of like-minded learners”

Due to its teamwork-oriented nature, STEM learning is greatly enhanced when done with a friend! Many STEM activities like robotics or engineering projects are completed in groups. It is when all members of the group are actively participating that the highest degree of learning is achieved.

Advantages of Learning STEM with Friends

Communication

We need leaders to start the conversation and students that are already friends can help facilitate that! Since they are already familiar with one another, they have shared topics they can bring up, like tv shows or video games. Once the conversation gets going, more and more kids will join in too! It’s getting past that initial silence that’s difficult. This promotes a close-knit community.

Confidence

For students that are more on the shy side, having a friend nearby can help them break out of their bubble and meet new people. Although teachers try their best to make students feel comfortable, there’s nothing like a friend to talk to that really makes them feel part of the group.

It ensures that they have someone their age to turn to when they have questions or comments. It also helps build their confidence, making them more inclined to speak up and actively participate.

Collaboration

It’s not a secret that some people work better together than others. Working alongside a friend can be beneficial because they understand each other, and know how to work together more efficiently. They can also build ideas off of each other and cooperate easily.

Gearminds

Conclusion

Learning STEM with friends has many benefits! It promotes communication among peers, a comfortable environment, and an efficient team. Friends aren’t a necessity to learning STEM, but it sure does enhance the incredible experience even more!
